Soulnation '09: Day 1 Review

Okay, so this is the first part of my review..

 

I came little bit late, I missed RAN, Boogiemen, and Rafi & the beat. Beside the fact that I came late, JFP change the schedule on the D-Day. So I was upset, but its okay, still lots to watch.

The first one is Ras Muhammad. I don't like reggae, clearly. I never listen to Bob marley's songs. But somehow, he change the way I see, hear, and feel reggae music. So energetic and he combined the reggae with the other genre. Also he kept the idealism of his music. I was so enjoyed by him.

The second I watched is Pandji. At first, I underestimated him, because of the talks, but he got nice songs. The backing vocal which is his wife, is annoying. The voice is so high, and my ear can't accept it, most of the audience should be agree with me. He came to the stage and also invite lots of his friends, say Barry Likumahuwa, who played Indonesia Pusaka Instrumentally and slowly. Glenn Fredly, Yacko, Rayi, Kyriz also came to the stage. Most of his songs is about Indonesia. Nothing wrong, but I just don't like someone that have too big nationalism, nothing personal too.

Then I went to Avolution Stage, the stage where you have to be 18+ to enter, with some tricks, I managed to get in. There was Arrested Development in there. Black people always energetic with their live performances. Even though I don't know their songs, I can feel the beat.

After that, I watched Tangga and J-Flow. Tangga always improved and rearrange their songs. With nice composition and choreography, the show were perfect. J-Flow made some controversy in his show, he pour all of his disappointment to JFP, the audience clap, but it may affect J-Flow carrier in next JFP concert.

The best in the last, Tortured Soul. This is the band I've been waiting for. Since their departure in Java Jazz 2007, their name blew in Indonesian's Music. The show was great, especially the drummer that sing also. I admire his stamina, he play lot of songs, and some of it is medley, and do not forget that he is also sing. But, I have to say, their show was monotone, but the skill is unbelievable.

Review: Mata Hati Telinga

So, i should make this review from last month or so, i have this album since first day of Java Jazz, and I;m quite sure I'm the first one that bought the album, making me the first normal person to have the third album of Maliq & D'essentials.

So, it was Friday at JJF 09, i found the booth, and i bought it. Quite expensive for an album that consist only 6 songs. The price is 130.000 rupiah, mine was special edition, there are only 1000 copy. Its a huge box, consist of the CD (the one that you can buy in store), booklet, and shirt. Ya its a special edition shirt. Since its title is Mata Hati Telinga, the shirt are consist picture of Mata or Hati or Telinga. Btw, i got Hati. And it signed by Maliq & D'essentials personels.

And the album itself. 6 songs. And before i bought the album, i already listen to pilihanku and Mata Hati Telinga. So there are 4 songs left that i never heard before. First one is Aura, started by orchestra, and then got into Maliq & D'essentials' Funk style, nice songs, little bit like Maroon 5 in some part.

Second song is Luluh, the song that I believe going to be the second single after Pilihanku, its catchy, its easy listening, and its got some hard chord, in term i couldn't find the guitar chords. The song was easy listening, and groovy, another nice song from M&D.

Third song, Jatuh Cinta, my mom said it was night jazz, couldn't agree more. But i feel like i have listen to it before, just a song to pass by.

Fourth song, Pilihanku, the single. Its not jazz, but its easy listening. Maybe its not jazz again, its pop with rock, and it sound like The Police, but still i like the melody of Angga. and i like the video.

Fifth song, Coba Katakan, weird chord i have to say, like Chrisye little bit, i like the last part of this song. Not too special.

Last song, Mata Hati Telinga or MHT, the song have released from last year's ramadhan. Acoustic and Rolling stone says its like carpenters'. Anyway its good song, and good lyric.

So overall, Maliq & D'essentials has prove that they are still leading the way in pop/funk/jazz band in Indonesia. Even though they start to go to pop. If you remember the first album, its so jazzy or soulful, that kind of sound you wouldn't get in this album. M&D are always trying to give something new in their each album. And this album the choose to be pop, but the detail are "matang". Prove that they are mature in everything.

Tahun Baru.. Lagi

Khusus nih post, gw pake bhs indonesia dan bahasa sedikit tidak benar.

Ok, so first of all, Happy New Year.. Doa buat diri lu masing2 ya!

 

Jadi sekarang kita uda memasuki tahun baru 2009. Jujur, 2008 adalah salah satu tahun terpenting gw. Gw lulus SMP, gw msk SMA, gw punya band yg bener2 bener, dan banyak lainnya. Jadi goodbye 2008.

Tapi seperti biasa, gw suka menganalisa, dan kali ini gw menganalisa arti dari pergantian tahun itu sendiri. Intinya ganti tahun adalah kita beli kalender baru. Ada juga yg bilang, kita mulai lagi dari awal. Ya bener, dari 31 desember jadi 1 januari lg. Tp sebenernya waktu itu adalah sesuatu yg abstrak, yg membuat itu penting hanyalah angka yg mengiringinya. Betul?

Angka2 itu berperan sangat penting hingga membuat org2 mau tidur malam dan menghabiskan waktu di luar niup trompet ato nyalain petasan. membuat semuanya menjadi meriah. Sehingga malam tahun baru lebih meriah dibandingkan malam idul fitri ato malam natal. Padahal lbh pentingan idul fitri ato natal. 

Sebegitu besarkah arti 1 Januari? Tidak. Kalo taun baru jatuh pada tanggal 24 Maret, org2 akan berkelakuan sama. Jadi apa? Artinya 1 Januari hanyalah korban dari waktu (ceileh). Lalu mengapa org merayakan taun baru? Menurut gw, manusia punya kecenderungan untuk mengulang. Coba aja liat org maen game, gak mungkin gak ngulang. Karena manusia senang akan fakta bahwa sesuatu dapat diulang. Jadi gw rasa, mereka merayakan taun baru karena mereka senang 365 hari yg telah mereka lalui dapat terulang dari awal lagi. Seakan-akan hidup adalah permainan, emg iya sih, tp dipermainan, sekali mengulang, lu bener2 mengulang. Di dalam hidup, tidak pernah ada kata kembali dari awal, kecuali lu reinkarnasi.

 

Sejauh ini, baru segini analisa gw, otak udah stuck.. Good Night.. Good Year (merk ban)

Define: Communication

When people born, they realized that they need each other, they are connected each other, and they need to communicate.

 

Of course, the first kind of communication is verbal communication, which using our voices. Someone said, that words that coming out from our mouth only represent 10% of the communication, the rest is our body language (how we move when we say it, the intonation, etc).

Then people are moving, and voice can't reach to far place. Then, they found "Letter". So you can write, and others can read. But, sometimes, the readers can misunderstand. Probably because, words only represent 10%.

After that, Telephone was founded. Now, people from far place can hear others' voice from far place. But the invention wasn't stop.

WWW (read: internet) was found, and maybe its a biggest communication invention. You see, people interact with computer (for hours), and internet make computer connected. It means that people in front of computer can communicate, and internet is around the globe. 

At first, chat was founded, but it was not like nowadays chat. Then, email. And maybe, the nowadays chat. At last, Skype. Skype make phone call is free, we can see other people face around the globe, see what their doing, see their body language. It almost like you meet the person. And it almost what I can say 100% communication. Well, that's what it called Video Call. 

Actually, what you've read is only the introduction. What I want to share is the communication in this day. When technology make people easier to interact/communicate, the people itself makes it hard communicate.

For example, when you are texting/sms-ing you probably would shortened the words. If words only represent 10%, how much shortened words would represent.

Another example:

I got this from a shoutout of a person that added me on friendster, this is what I called "Hard Communication". Somehow this makes me hard to understand. I believe if she use regular words, only alpahabet (not numeral that replacong some alpahabet) it will be a lot lot lot easier for me to understand.

Some people say it is "Gaul" when you do things like that. But why you say "Gaul" if its hard to communicate.

And, that sort of things became joke of mine and my friends. And we don't think it is "Gaul" but, "Kampung".

Well, the conclusion is, technology make us easier to interact between each other, from voice, words, photos, videos we can make people around the globe read, hear, and see it. So, let's not make it becaming hard again.

 

Gotta get some sleep..

Review: Eccoutez - Positive

So, this is my review of Ecoutez's latest album titled Positive. Basically it has 10 songs inside of it. But, since I download the songs instead of buy the album, so I just have 7 out of 10. And this is the review.

 

First time I saw this album is in a music store, and my first impression is "what a terrible cover". Yes it is, very horrible cover. How people would be attracted if the cover is like that. Because of that, I didn't buy the album. 

Then on Twitter, people are talking about the album. So I decided to download it from here, www.misshacker.com

And I download those 7 songs. The funny thing is, IMHO, the best song is the intro which has duration around 3 minutes. The other song is just like regular songs, which means "If you play it, I don't get bothered, but i wouldn't be bother to play it". Until now, I'm just playing the intro.

About the genre, it still ecoutez, it has jazz, groove, and pop. They don't change their genre to a cheesy pop/rock that spreading all over Indonesia. 

Overall, I give 3 stars out of 5 for this album. Not bad.

Pokemon Crater Reborn

Maybe some of you guys know an online game called "Pokemon Crater". Yeah, basically it just like a pokemon game in gameboy, but somehow a pokemon fanatic named Aaron with his friend make a website where you can play pokemon on internet for free. The great thing is you can battle with other people, ONLINE. This website has 400.000 users around the world, and that's website had been running for 8 years, but in December 2007, the site was closed. Aaron say that he's going to finish his college and will get busy of life, so he can't manage the website again. Actually, I don't buy it, I think Nintendo banned the website, because it has no license. So, the site was closed, and leaving 400.000 users dissapointed.

 

But, yesterday I was googling about pokemon crater, and guess what? I found a guy name Kyro and he wants to rebuilt pokemon crater. The site is not fully finish, but it quite good as a start.

it has similar design and layout, also game playing, overall is good. But, it still beta 0.1, so, it still has many of lacks. But, I'm just glad that I can play that game again. Huh..

Twilight Movie Review

Ya, kemaren gw baru ntn Twilight - telat bgt sih gw. Padahal minggu lalu gw ditawarin ma rehan tiket premiere Twilight, cuman kecapekan ntn jakjazz jadi gw tolak. So, kemaren gw tonton. Ini adalah review gw.

1. Twilight Tidak Jelek

2. Cowonya Ganteng (so gay)

3. Tidak Membosankan

4. Ceritanya Lain dari yang lain

5. Viewnya sangat bagus

6. Sangat Kelam

7. Overall Menghibur

Jadi gw kasih 7/10. Namun, sepulang dari ntn gw liat di imdb.com & rottentomatoes.com, dan mendapati Twilight tidak mendapatkan rating yang bagus, berkisar antara 5-6/10. Ya tapi menurut gw Twilight baguslah dibanding film2 lain yg lagi ada di bioskop. Oh ya, satu lagi, sebelum ntn gw beli bukunya yg limited edition (wehey) dan di rumah gw baca, baru 30 halaman sih, tapi ternyata bukunya lebih seru dibanding filmnya. Hehe.. Baca lagi ah.

JakJazz 08 Day 1

Halo-halo, kemaren gw baru aja nonton jakjazz 2008 dan inilah liputan dari gw

Okay, gw hadir pada Day 1 jakjazz dan artis yg gw tonton adalah:

- Vidi Aldiano

- Maliq & D'essentials

- Tompi

- Salamander Big Band

- Binus Jazz Sociates

- Funk Section

Kita mulai dari awal

gw pulang sekolah pukul 15.00 langsung nebeng mobil temen gw rehan, kita pulang dulu ke rumahnya, ngambil saudaranya dan kita pergi ke istora senayan. Di dalam mobil berisi gw, rehan, saudaranya yg bernama bondan, dan adeknya yang bernama Dimas. Kita mempunyai kesamaan, sama2 tidak punya tiket, tapi itulah gunanya calo.

Kita sampa di istora sekitar 18.30, dan kita dikejar-kejar oleh calo, namun dengan sukses kita bisa meninggalkan dia (soalnya dia ditangkep satpam). Kita beli tiket di Ticket Box, seharga 300 rb/org.

Masuk ke dalam arena, kita foto2 dulu, dan rehan langsung nyari toilet. Bondan yang notabene org pekanbaru langsung kalep ngliat merchandise booth. Gw dan Dimas ngikut aja. Sialnya gw dan Dimas dimarahin gak boleh masuk merchandise booth karena dibawah 18 tahun. Padahal Bondan berumur 16 tahun badannya aja gempor jadi gak ketauan. Kenapa harus 18+ karena sponsornya adalah merk rokok dan mereka takut dengan urusan media dan segalanya.

Trus, akhirnya kita ntn 1st show kita. Salamande big band, namanya big band, bandnya emang gede bgt uda kayak orkestra, keren dah pokoknya. 

Lalu kita naek ke bagian indoor stadiumnya, disitu ada Vidi Aldiano, dia adalah new star dan baru rilis album minggu lalu, tampangnya mirip Baim Wong. Keliatan bgt dia sebagai pemula, tidak dapat menguasai panggung, tapi gw cukup salut saat dia featuring Rio Sidik dan Tohpati menyanyikan lagu "Jejak Langkah" keren bgt, sisanya biasa aja.

Lalu pukul 20.30 gw pergi ke Amphitheatre, tempat maliq akan bermain pukul 21.00. Sialnya disitu uda rame bgt, padahal masih soundcheck. Sambil nunggu gw makan dulu. Tepat pukul 21.00, maliq main, dan gebleknya rame bgt. Menurut sumber yg gw dapet, 2 ribu orang ntn maliq, padahal disaat yg bersamaan Ray Harris dan Fusion Experience lagi main di main hallnya. Gila, org inggris kalah pamor ma Maliq. But it's worthed. Maliq gila bgt, dari semua hal mereka memang mantep, dan ini adalah, IMO, Best Performancenya Maliq yg pernah gw tonton, ini list lagu mereka:

- : berarti lagunya digabung, dan inilah yg bikin performance mereka keren, new arransemen, stage act gila2an, dan everything.

Anak2 twentyfirst night yg ntn mereka sampe pada bengong. Stage act maliq di antaranya adalah diam ditengah lagu, nendang angin brg2 (sound silly, tp keren bgt), lompat brg, muter brg, nendang ke belakang brg, dll. Keren bgt, dan itu adalah best show at the night.

Abis itu karena kecapekan kita duduk dulu, maklum gw ada di paling depan pas maliq maen, uda ngecharge tenaga, gw siap2 bwat Tompi. Sama seperti maliq, 1 jam sebelum mulai maen, uda rame bgt. Tapi mereka telat dari schedule saat main. 

Tompi terlihat sangat mendominasi bandnya, satu band mempunyai skill, dan semuanya dilakukan secara spontan, tidak terlihat seperti sudah latihan.

Satu hal yg seru, Tompi ngebawain lagu ST 12 yg PUSPA, which is very good, tapi tetep Best Show dipegang oleh Maliq.

iPhone Sebagai Panutan

Beberapa hari trakhir ini gw lg ngikutin perkembangan handphone, dan hmm.. mereka semua bisa dibilang meniru iPhone.

Bukan isapan jempol (ceileh..) kalo iPhone adalah sebuah ponsel revolusioner. Bayangkan sebuah handphone tanpa sebuah keyboard, hmmm... pertama mereka akan bingung, kedua mereka mencoba untuk menirunya. 

Lalu, layar besar dengan kemampuan multimedia tinggi, iPhone memiliki layar 16 jt warna yg sangat keren, touch screen dan memiliki user interface yg sangat menawan. Lagi2 ini ditiru. Bnyk ponsel yg memiliki menu seperti iPhone, dimana icon berukuran besar dan dapat dibuka dengan menyentuhnya. Dan sering memamerkan betapa bagusnya layar mereka.

iPhone juga memiliki kualitas web browser kelas satu, mungkin ini adalah hal yg belum bisa disaingi oleh kompetitornya. Rata2, ponsel lain akan menampilkan halaman web dengan layout berantakan, tidak dengan iPhone.

Namun bukan berarti iPhone tanpa kekurangan, seperti bluetooth yg tidak berfungsi sepenuhnya, tidak ada video recording dan kualitas kamera standar, tidak bisa dijadikan modem meski 3G, dan beberapa hal kecil yg cukup membuat perbedaan. Dan hal inilah yg membuat orang2 masih ragu akan iPhone, terutama high-end user, mereka akan lebih memilih blackberry atau ponsel lain.

Ya tapi, untuk urusan, desain, user interface, keyboard di layar, menu, layar besar dan lainnya. Mereka menjadikan iPhone sebagai panutannya. Siapakah mereka?

Kesimpulan akhir, apakah iPhone sebuah ponsel revolusioner? iya, setelah iPhone keluar, pandangan orang akan ponsel berubah, tapi apakah iPhone yg terbaik? butuh pertimbangan lebih lanjut
